Chess With Zombies: Pawn Of The Dead Heading To Oculus Rift

California-based developers zChess are currently working on a virtual reality (VR) adaptation of popular mobile title, Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead. Heading to Oculus Home’s Early Access channel soon, Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead is, as you might expect, a VR chess videogame played with zombies.

Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead is an animated, immersive 3D chess videogame featuring quirky, cartoon zombie and human chess pieces. You can play either the human (white) pieces or the zombie (black) pieces against the computer. Designed for a variety of skill levels from novice to master player, Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead features highlighted movable pieces and legal moves, and the computer has 10 skill levels from absolute beginner to tournament level.

Developed by a small team of friends after having their interest in VR piqued, Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead also includes three piece sizes, four music tracks, move take-back, haptic feedback, and a demo mode. As stated above, many features in this comprehensive package have been designed to welcome newcomers to chess with the option of learning as they play. Of course, all of this is packaged with a cartoonish presentation to boot.

Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead made its debut on smartphone handsets earlier this year, priced at £1.55 GBP, and is receiving continued support from zChess with an online multiplayer mode currently in development. An local multiplayer option is also present. Whether any online gameplay or additional multiplayer functionality will become available in the VR edition of Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead is not currently known.

Neither a specific price point nor release date for the Oculus Rift edition of Chess with Zombies: Pawn of the Dead has yet been announced, however zChess has revealed that they are aiming to launch via Oculus Home’s Early Access channel very soon.
