Intrepid Studios has announced that its stand alone title, Ashes of Creation Apocalypse, will be launching into open beta on December 18th for Windows PC. Apocalypse is a standalone game for those who enjoy competitive play pitting themselves against other players. Apocalypse will feature a battle royale mode for up to 100 players duking it out to be the last one standing. Post-launch, Intrepid plans to launch a 200-player castle siege mode, co-op horde missions and much more.
Interesting to note, all of this is also being used to test the systems (combat, siege, co-op, and so forth) for the MMORPG, Ashes of Creation. It's being billed as a sort of "prequel" in terms of lore, and will serve as a free sort of beta for a lot of the core systems and technology being put into Ashes of Creation. Though the actual alpha and beta for that game is still being developed separately from Apocalypse.
Players who unlock cosmetic items in Apocalypse through game play or cash purchase will also see them available in Ashes of Creation the MMO when it launches.
